The old school in Negushevo is more than just a building — it preserves the memory of a community’s pursuit of knowledge and the understanding that perseverance, mutual support, and hard work are what build a future. Within its walls live dozens of small stories of growth through education.

Negushevo is a unique village — with its distinct character, preserved old houses and stone walls, and residents who value and protect the beauty and nature around them. It is no coincidence that it is often called “the Sofia Kovachevitsa,” familiar from many Bulgarian films shot here.

Today, thanks to the efforts of local people, like-minded supporters, and partners, the school is being transformed into a shared space for learning and exchange. Under its roof, art, tradition, and the revival of forgotten agricultural practices coexist in service of the community.

For the past three years, the building has been home to film nights, music events, and gatherings. The school garden has become a place for reconnecting with the land, where clean food is grown. The vegetable garden brings together our vision of a “living place,” a “green school,” and regenerative agriculture.

Under the motto “Plant Knowledge,” the Community Center in Negushevo is sowing the preserved seeds of the past to cultivate its future.

Donation Campaign: “BE A GUARDIAN OF HISTORY”

More than a century ago, the villagers built the school together through collective effort. Today, after years of neglect, it is alive once again as an educational and cultural center.

To continue existing, the building urgently needs roof repairs and structural reinforcement amounting to €20,000.

The community behind the center is legally represented by the Povey Foundation, which holds the lease agreement for the building and partners with the municipality. For this reason, funds for the renovation are being raised through the foundation’s account.
